Washington, Arlington National Cemetery

Some more old photographs.  Strictly speaking, Arlington National Cemetery is outside Washington, on the other side of the Potomac River.  The cemetery was established during the American Civil War on the land of the Arlington Estate that had been confiscated by the federal government from the private ownership of Confederate States Army general Robert E. Lee’s family.  The Arlington Memorial Bridge connects the cemetery with the centre of Washington, D.C.
